LUTA - A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

LUTA is much more than quality fight wear and training wear: we are a social enterprise that never forgets our roots or what we truly stand for. As a social enterprise, we have a 50% profit share scheme with the charity Fight for Peace International, who supports young people living in communities affected by crime and violence.

We are committed to giving Fight for Peace International, registered charity 1137636 (via its subsidiary company), at least as much of the company's profits as we pay our shareholders.

Why are we doing this?
First, because LUTA is born of Real Strength and that means recognising and supporting those young people who overcome adversity to become champions both in and out of the ring.

Second, because LUTA was created by the founder of Fight for Peace, and after ten years of working in the favela, he wants to keep supporting young people growing up in communities that suffer from crime and violence.

What happens if LUTA doesn’t pay its shareholders a profit?
We’re so committed to supporting Fight for Peace projects that even if the company doesn’t distribute any profits to its shareholders in any given year, we will pay Fight for Peace International (via its subsidiary company) a minimum of £10,000 pounds per annum. If Luta Limited does distribute more than £10,000 to its shareholders in any given year, we will give the same amount to Fight for Peace International (via its subsidiary company). That means LUTA will provide significant support for Fight for Peace projects, even if the shareholders are not receiving a profit.

What does Fight for Peace do?
Fight for Peace Academies are open to all young people from the community and work closely with those children and young people most adversely affected by or involved in crime and violence.

Fight for Peace Academies are based on the ‘Five Pillars’ model, an integrated methodology which combines:

  1. Boxing & Martial Arts training and competition
  2. Personal Development & Education
  3. Youth Support Services (mentoring & case work)
  4. Job training & Work Access
  5. Youth Leadership

Where does Fight for Peace work?
Fight for Peace was founded in the favela of Complexo da Maré, Rio de Janeiro, in 2000, and in 2007 Fight for Peace opened a second Academy in North Woolwich, East London. During 2011, Fight for Peace will be training partner organisations to run Fight for Peace programmes in Kenya, Costa Rica, Ghana, Uganda, Lebanon, USA and DRC. From 2012, Fight for Peace will grow globally.
